Support our Foundation through #HudsonGives

The Hudson County Chamber of Commerce is running their second annual Hudson Gives campaign in support of Hudson County non-profits. This year, the Rotary Foundation of Jersey City has signed up to participate in this online fundraising effort. This one day giving event will not only provide much needed funds to our Foundation and other Hudson County charities, but will assist in bringing awareness of our good work to a wider audience.

Jersey City Rotarians are asked to support both the Rotary International Foundation and the Rotary Foundation of Jersey City as part of the Every Rotarian, Every Year program. As the Club's Foundation Chairman, Jim Miller has asked each member to step up and meet their obligation and support our Foundation. If you haven't done so yet, please make your $100 annual contribution for the 2019-2020 Rotary year through our page on the HudsonGives web site on Thursday, May 14.

Club Participates in ‘All About Downtown Fair'’

Members of the Jersey City Rotary Club last week participated in Jersey City’s ninth annual “All About Downtown Street Fair. Joined on Saturday by members of University Academy Charter High School’s Interact Club, the Rotarians staffed one of dozens of tents along the four blocks of Newark Avenue from Grove to Coles Streets where the fair was held during which they spoke of the Club’s mission of service. At one point, they were joined by Honorary Member Mayor Steven Fulop, who toured the fair and in which the City also had a tent.

Artist Talks of Social Justice in Cameroon

Issa Nyaphaga, an artist from Cameroon, spoke last week of his experiences growing up in Cameroon and of his harassment and imprisonment by government officials because of his work.

Speaking at the second of the Jersey City Rotary’s two meetings on Thursday evening, Mr. Nyaphaga said that as a boy, he would walk four miles a day, four days a week, in order to attend school, and that he would walk 25 miles on weekends in order to visit his uncle. He was, he said, among the first members of his family to obtain an education.
