Windows of Hope Family Relief Fund
For Twenty-two years, The Rotary Club of Jersey of City held an annual
luncheon at the famed Windows On the World facility at the top of the World
Trade Center in New York City on the last Thursday of each October. Until
September 11, 2001, this tradition was maintained except for 1993-94 when the
restaurant was closed because of the terrorist bombing of that
building. In 2001, this splendid event was scheduled for October
25. On September 11, 2001, those plans were shattered along with the lives
of numerous victims of the horrendous attack on our nation.
The Rotary Club of Jersey City chose to defy those terrorists and held a
luncheon on that date at its usual meeting place, the Casino In the Park in
Jersey City to raise money for the families of victims of that attack who were
employed in the food and hospitality professions who were killed in the
terrorist attack.
Through our Jersey City Rotary Foundation, we were able to raise $ 10,000
which was donated to the Windows of Hope
Family Relief Fund to provide assistance to surviving family members of the
food and hospitality workers killed in the attack of September 11.
On March 14, 2002, a check for that amount was presented to a
representative of that organization from the Jersey City Rotary Foundation
through the Walter
D. Head Foundation.
