Rotary
International Group
Study Exchange
A program in which a group of young non-Rotarian
professionals led by a single Rotarian undertake a multi-week visit to a
foreign country to gain a better understanding of that country's culture,
economy, and people. A similar group from that country is then hosted by
the participating Rotary Club or District in the United States.
The
Rotary Club of Jersey City has participated in a number of group study exchanges
over the years. Two of our Past Presidents, Ken and Ruth Ruskin have been
group leaders in exchanges with Brazil and Switzerland respectively.
We
recently hosted a group of young professionals from Peru at one of our Thursday
meetings and had the great pleasure of taking them on vocational and cultural
visits to some of our local companies and institutions.
The team was led by Enrique Palma Lama, a Rotarian who is the Manager of a
company that produces oils. It consisted of four non-rotarians who were
afforded an opportunity to spend a month here in the US learning about our
culture and our economy. Team members included two dentists - Aurea Morales
Guevera and Esther Loza Gastelumendi; an economist - Alan Barturen Llanos;
and a manager of a baking company - Alfonso Chavarri Olguin.
