The William and Catherine Miller
Campership Fund

Bill and Kay Miller - Founders of Hudson County School
Employees Federal Credit Union which later became Liberty Savings Federal Credit
Union. Bill was a long time member of the Rotary Club of Jersey City and
his two sons - Bill, Jr. and Jim, Sr. - as well as one grandson - Jim, Jr.
- and his daughter-in-law - Adele - are current members of the club.
Another daughter-in-law, Fran Miller, is Past President of the Rotary Club of
North Hudson.
The Miller Campership Fund has been established based on grants from the
Liberty Savings Federal Credit Union in honor of its founders William A.
(Bill) and
Catherine L. (Kay) Miller because of their longtime support of scouting.
Bill was active for many years in the 1940's as a Scoutmaster with the Hudson
Council, Boy Scouts of America and was a James E. West Fellow of that
organization. Kay was honored by the Pavonia Council, Girl Scouts USA as a
"Woman of Achievement." Both of their sons, Bill, Jr. and Jim,
Sr., as well as their grandson Jim, Jr. are Eagle Scouts, and another grandson,
William M. Miller, is currently a Life Scout hoping to complete his Eagle in the
next year. Kay is also a Jersey City Rotary Foundation Fellow.
The
fund is set up as a permanent endowment fund with the earnings generated by
the fund being distributed periodically. Additional contributions to this fund are made
periodically both by the Credit Union and by interested individuals. Anyone interested in making a
contribution to this fund should contact the Club
directly.
The purpose of the fund is
limited to providing financial assistance to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts from
Hudson County, New Jersey in order that they might participate in Scouting
sponsored summer camp, national, and international opportunities.
Members of the Rotary Club of Jersey City and their immediate families are not
eligible.
