The Fourth Avenue of Service

International Service describes the many programs and activities that Rotarians undertake to advance international understanding, goodwill and peace. International Service projects are designed to meet humanitarian needs of people in many lands. Most clubs work through established projects of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.  

In addition to our special projects, The Rotary Club of Jersey City supports and participates in:

PolioPlus -

A worldwide effort undertaken by the Rotary International Foundation in cooperation with the United Nations to eradicate Polio and a variety of other diseases from the face of the earth.  For additional information about PolioPlus, visit the Rotary International PolioPlus webpage  HERE.

International Youth Exchange -

A program by which American High School students are able to spend their junior year abroad living with host families and attending school in a foreign country.  Students from other countries are also able to spend their junior year or equivalent attending high school in the United States while being hosted in the homes of American families.  For additional information about the International Youth Exchange, visit the Rotary International International Youth Exchange webpage  HERE.

Group Study Exchange -

A program in which a group of young non-Rotarian professionals led by a single Rotarian undertake a multi-week visit to a foreign country to gain a better understanding of that country's culture, economy, and people.  A similar group from that country is then hosted by the participating Rotary Club or District in the United States.  For additional information about the Group Study Exchange, visit the Rotary International Group Study Exchange webpage  HERE.

Gift of Life -

A program which brings children from underdeveloped countries who are in need of life saving heart surgery to the United States for that surgery.  The child, and an accompanying adult are hosted by Rotarians in their homes while preparing for and recovering from the surgery.  For additional information about the Gift of Life program, visit the Gift of Life page on the Rotary District 7490 website HERE.  View our Gift of Life - Shanghai page HERE.
